Cook Inlet Historical Society Invites Grant Applications

Good news from the Cook Inlet Historical Society about two new grant programs for Alaska historians. In order to encourage research and writing about the Cook Inlet area and Alaska, CIHS invites proposals for grants created to honor the memory of Brian Davies and John Reeder, two long-time board members of the Society who passed away in 2012 and 2013.

The Brian Davies Memorial Grant for Alaska History supports creative projects and in-depth research that make a significant contribution to the study of Alaska history. Recipients of the John Reeder Memorial Travel Grant must be conducting research in a library or archives in Alaska. Each grant is in the range of $400 to $1,000. Grants can be used for classroom-based projects and other research. The Society hopes that the grants will broaden current knowledge of Cook Inlet history and cultures. The grants can also be used to develop classroom-based projects to explore Cook Inlet history and engage both the Anchorage academic community and interested public.

The application deadline is April 1, 2014, and awards will be announced by mid-May.
