Alaska Mining Hall of Fame Museum Opens in Fairbanks

The Alaska Mining Hall of Fame Foundation (AMHF) announces the opening of its new museum in Fairbanks. Tom Bundtzen, AMHF president, invites the public to the opening ceremony on Thursday, July 18, at 7:00 pm. The museum is located at 825 1st Avenue, a building in downtown Fairbanks known historically as the Odd Fellows Hall. The museum plans to be open six days a week until the end of the summer, depending on staff and volunteer scheduling.

The July 18 opening will celebrate the contributions of Doug Colp, a distinguished mining pioneer who worked in copper, gold, and coal mines for more than seventy years and who taught engineering courses at the University of Alaska.

The AMHF was formed in 1997, and has inducted more than ninety mining pioneers into its organization. The museum tells the story of Alaska’s mining history through the lives of the men and women who have been inducted into the AMHF. The organization produces a Paystreak newsletter, which presents biographies of inductees, and has a website at Alaskamininghalloffame.org.
